Believe it, or not; accept it, or not Mary Kay was very clear about her success formula. This is the foundation of the Mary Kay business success story and what I believe will sustain all of our businesses into the future.
But how do you apply this formula so that the success smiles down upon your individual business. Well, lets take a look at each one of them and break it down to every day terms.
God: Although Mary Kay came from a Chriistian Judeo back ground I am sure that her concept of God included all decent women whose spiritual beliefs centered around love, mutual respect, hard work and who openly practiced that. She was a prayerful woman who spent her share of time praying and worshiping God in the way she was inspired and taught.
By putting God first I believe she meant to spend time with your spirituality as a primary source of direction, inspiration, moral guidance and activity. In other words don't talk spirituality practice it with sincerity and commitment daily.
Family: In an age where people are using every possible excuse to break up, Its love, patience, forgiveness and mutual respect that binds a family together. Now I'm not talking about extreme cases of things like abuse or addictions. But keep in mind that most break ups occur over sometning as nebulous as "irreconcialable differences.
I'm not a marriage counselor or anything of the sort but I know people who have divorced and broken up their family over some things that I believe could have been worked out by cultivating a few of the virtues mentioned above.
Make time for your spouse and children and never let them feel as though your business is a higher priority than they are. So, have a regular date night with your spouse or significant other and keep it. Tell them how important they are to you. Show up for the kids activities. People may forget what you've said, but they always remember how you made them feel.
Career: Remember that your business is at least as important as your job. Treat it with the same level of respect or higher. What ever hours you establish for your business…show up in those hours and do the work that makes your business successful.
